On Thursday, Obey Smite will be up against Team Elevate in their first match of the fifth and final week of the SPL Fall Split. Obey are currently in first place, boasting a stellar performance throughout the split while remaining undefeated. However, Elevate will be their toughest opponents yet, placing third on the current standings right above Valance Squadron. In their recent performances, Elevate duked it out with Team Rival and Team Dignitas, losing both matchups 0-2. While Elevate were expected to lose to Dignitas, watching them lose to Rival was a shocker, considering their opposition’s sixth place in the standings.
Although Elevate has had some recent rough sets, their performance versus NRG on Saturday, September 16th, is the best gauge of their potential. In that set, Elevate picked for success in the early game, but were still highly susceptible to outplays and outrotations. Where Elevate showed weakness in the early game, they showed prowess in midgame fights and objective contests. Though there were not many kills on the board for either team at the end of game one, the synergy that jungler Mohaned “Cherryo” Dewedar had with his mid laner, Willem “DeathPanter” Hoste, certainly proved something to be feared. Also, Bastien “Dardez” Proust’s support mechanics were phenomenal in both games, which created several opportunities for kills on Elevate’s behalf. As a whole, Elevate are a powerhouse of mechanical ability and tend to pick very cc-heavy compositions, but their general tactics, drafting, and early game play are where they fall short.
